Description: Photograph of terraces. Constructing terraces with two, three bottom plows. This picture shows completed terraces as the 16 round was being made. This terrace is approximately 1000 feet long. It checked out 1.2 settled, height of ridge cross section of channel is 16 sq. ft. Ridge is 20 ft. from channel to toe on back side. OK-745-12.

Farming Equipment and Methods

Description: Photograph of conservation crop rotation. Kochia weed and salt grass on salt area where it is very difficult to get crops started. The problem is this—getting the crops started. Volunteer kochia weed serves as a priority treatment to get a cover on the land. At certain stages cattle graze readily and it supplies a large amount of organic material when plowed down in a seed-bed preparation. OK-745-2.

Water Conservation; Water Erosion; Flooding and Prevention

Description: Photograph of a view of a broken dam from the downstream side. A six inch rain in one night caused the dam to overtop its entire length and finally break. Notice the huge pieces of concrete from the core wall. As facing the wall, they were carried down by water. A large bridge washed through this break. This dam and resevoir, which cost $350,000, silted in 48% in nine years and was soon to be abandoned because its storage capacity was reduced too much for it to be relied upon for the city water… more
