Gully Caused by Heavy Rainfall

Description: Photograph of a gully caused by the 19-inch rainfall which fell in 7-hours on June 22. This gully, 25 feet deep and 40 feet wide, & several blocks long, is in the middle of what was a travelled street before the rain started. Less than 2 acres of land drain into the gully above its head.

Concord Grape Vineyard

Description: Photograph of showing the average growth of the 20 year old ten acre Concord Grape vineyard. The chorty soil was terraced before grapes were set. Soil building crop of vetch, yellow hop clover, lespedeza, and rye grass is maintained at all times except for short period during the final growth and ripening of the fruit. Description: Photograph of a seedbed that has been prepared on a 240-acre farm in the Choska Drainage District and will be able to produce good crops since the water table has been lowered by good drainage. The back of the photograph proclaims, “A good seedbed that has been prepared on this 240 acre farm. The Choska Drainage District provided the drainage for this farm. This land will now produce good crops since the water table has been lowered by good drainage.”

Description: Photograph of pure-bred Hereford cattle grazing on [unclear] pasture of Bermuda grass, native bluestem and clovers. This pasture has been mowed for weed control where the cattle are grazing. In the foreground the pasture has not been mowed and the cattle graze to this line. This shows the value of mowing. OK-9111.

Water Conservation; Water Erosion; Flooding and Prevention

Description: Photograph of a bridge, over the Canadian River, is now 18 inches from the water, which is only about a foot deep but formerly 16 feet above the water level. Acc. To William Dolezal, supervisor of the eat Canadian Soil Conservation District, the water deep enough to dive into from the bridge 25 years earlier. Silt from upstream farms has clogged the channel. Description: Photograph of an old dilapidated bridge that the UNIDNTIFED county commission will replace with a fill & drop inlet. The back of the photograph proclaims, "Old bridge which will be replaced by fill & drop inlet. Description: Photograph of a diversion terrace that cuts water out of a field showing at the right. Part of the field had a deep gully unfit for cultivation before the diversion cut the water out of it. The grass on the terrace is Bermuda. It is mowed regularly and utilized for grazing. TX-42, 413.
