Being used as soil builder on Soil Bank Land. James was not ready to go to pasture and land was still suitable for cultivation as mapped by SCS Soils technicians. Description: Photograph of meadow. Proper meadow maintennace will result in regrowth such as this being examined by Soil Conservation Service [SCS] technician, Andrew Costner. The native grass has sufficient regrowth to regain vigor and make seed to be used elsewhere. If top growth is a problem for next year's crop, SCS technicians recommend cutting dead growth in late winter with a rotary mower. This puts mulch on the ground and aids to keep soil and moisture losses low. OK-1482-10.

Description: Photograph of Lee H. Carleton, Work Unit Conservationist [WUC], and Hiram Hatton bailing Kentucky fescue grass and Ladino clover on the Harry Howe farm. This three-year old, 20 acre field, fertilized with 100 pounds ammonium nitrate per acre, furnished grazing for 40 head of cattle for 60 days and 20 steers for 40 days and yielded 42 bales of hay per acre.
