This "pick-em-yourself" four acre project grossed $1,600 in 1960. Over 2,000 people picked for home use according to DeGroot. This retired bricklayer says his hobby is interesting and profitable.

Description: Photograph of Bermuda grass harvesting. District harvesting Bermuda grass roots. This field was sprigged to Midland Bermuda grass in the spring of 1959 and has had two growing seasons with heavy grazing each year. This area harvested (= one-sixth of an acre) produced 200 bushels of roots per acre. With current cost rates would amount to $480 worth of roots per acre. OK-1380-1.

Description: Photograph of an earth dam near Kenton, OK. Dam has approx. 75,000 sq. yards of fill, approx. 2000 ft. long and will impound water over approximately 700 acres.
