Planted in 4 inch flat furrows 16 inches apart. 2 pounds of seed per acre. 150 pounds of 10-20-10 fertilizer applied per acre at time of planting. Grass was 12 inches high 6 weeks after planting. 50 cows and 23 calves turned onto pasture on July 6, 1958. Soil Mapping name--Stidham very fine sandy loam. Badly eroded abandoned cropland. Description: Photograph of range improvement, H. Mead Norton, Ti Ranch. Excellent condition of native grass to the left of the fence has been accomplished by treating brush and deferred grazing. The pasture to the left of the fence was sprayed by airplane in June, 1956, with 2 pounds of 2-4-5T herbicide per acre, and again with 1 poind per acre in June, 1957. Description: Photograph of deep plowing for shinnery oak shrub control. This field is badly infested with shinnery oak, being 5 to 20 feet tall when it was deep plowed. The field was drug with cross ties; [unclear] and seeded to rye in the fall of 1957. 22 acres were deep plowed. Eighty five head of cattle were counted as grazing in the filed in March, 1958. Description: Photograph of improved pasture, Earl Edds farm. Beef cattle grazing on the Edds farm of only 40 acres. The cattle on this Bermuda grass pasture receive no additional feed or pasture. Mr. Edds used only $150.00 worth of hay for the cattle in the winter of 1955 – 1956. The hay was harvested from this farm. The 40 acres of pasture are divided into four sections for rotation, grazing and proper management. OK-294-3.
