Description: Photograph of Claude Newland, SCS Soil Scientist, examines the field of E. T. McCollum, 2 ½ miles north of Vinita. The back of the photograph proclaims, "This field produced 6 ½ bushels of oats per acre in 1950. The oats had been overseeded with sericea lespedeza. The sericea was fertilized with 650 lbs. per acre of rock phosphate which was drilled into the soil.
