Hairpin Bend

Description: Photograph of Hairpin Bend on a road in Idabel. The location when the photograph was taken is on the northeast side of Big Mountain on State Highway 21. Highway 21 was replaced by Highway 259 which eliminated the use of Hairpin Bend. The area is on the east side of Hwy 259 a mile north of the cedar creek golf course at Hochatown. It is still accessible on foot and is grown over by pine trees in 2024.

Train Wreck West of Broken Bow, Oklahoma

Description: Photograph of a train wreck west of Broken Bow on the Texas, Oklahoma & Eastern Railroad line. Albert Slaton (son of Arthur Slaton & Arizonie Bearden) were killed in the wreck on May 6, 1920. The train belonged to the Choctaw Lumber Company. The train derailed on the Lukfata Creek trestle near Camp Taylor.
