Old Channel of the Washita

Description: Photograph of the old channel of the Washita just south of Herring. This channel became clogged with debris and the river cut a new channel. This was the channel until May 1928. This desbris is made up largely of topsoil and silt as compound to the almost pure sand debris of the new channel. Picture 7085.

Returning to Alfalfa

Description: Photograph of a field to be returned, by irrigation, to alfalfa. Irrigation well will be located in the foreground. Alfalfa was produced in this field for about 30 years prior to 1934, with irrigation water supplied from the Beaver River. Impossible to take water from river since floods have cut the bank of the creek.
