Overfall is Small Pasture

Description: Photograph of of an overfall in s small pasture gully showing how the water tends to cut in soil unprotected by vegetation. This pasture is coverd with a good sod and the water running off is clear, almost free of silt. An inch of rain fell in half an hour just prior to the taking of this picture.

Water Falling Over a Large Pond Dam

Description: Photograph of water falling over a large pond dam. An adequate spillway was not provided for this dam and excess water must flow over the crest. The dam is cutting and will eventually be ruined. This picture was taken in the rain immediately after an inch of water had fallen in one half hour.

Natural Drainage

Description: Photograph of water running in a natural drainage in a well-sodded pasture. This was taken during a hard rain. The water in the grass is running clear showing very little, if any, silt is being carried by this water coming from a good sod. About an inch of rain fell in half an hour prior to the taking of this picture.

Stigler Project, Terrace Outlet Channel

Description: Photograph taken in the rain shortly after an inch of water fell in half an hour, this picture shows a terrace outlet channel emptying onto a good pasture sod. It is evident how the water is spread out and allowed to filter away with no erosion or cutting effects.

Description: Photograph of water running off onto good pasture sod. This runoff is the result of one inch rain in half an hour. The water spread out as it filters through the grasws. No erosion or cutting results.

Rabbit Traps Made of Logs

Description: Photograph of rabbit traps made of logs. Hundreds of traps of this type were used last winter for commercial rabbit trapping. Manhy of the farmers depend heavily on the income derived from rabbit trapping. The rabbits sold for 10 cents each. Dr. Lafaye caught over 300 rabbits before Christmas.
