Timber Stand Improvement

Description: Photograph of Elmer Binns girdling large cull oak tree to release a crop of young pines. This is cheaper, quicker and a better method than planting pine seedlings. Planting pine seedlings in this mountain area is difficult and expensive. This hill land has been badly cut over the past and Mr. Binns is trying to encourage pine trees through adapted conservation forestry measures. OK-335-9.

Trees, Tree Farms, Woodlands, and Forests

Description: Photograph of forestry practices. A stack of posts, 6 feet in length, at the concentration yard near Coaldale, Arkansas. Type of posts which are being cut from the Henschell and surrounding woods. Posts are brought into this yard to be peeled, graded and prepared for shipment. Charles P. Burke, Oklahoma Woodland Conservationist, is checking a stack of graded posts. These posts are the result of proper woodland thinning. OK-335-11.
