Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Oklahoma City's critical water supply is graphically shown in this picture taken from the road across the west side of Lake Hefner's dam. Water which lapped at the riprap, lower left, in wetter days has now receded into the lake for a distance of about four blocks. And that's the other end of the high-and-dry curving dam in the background. The lake, city officials say, has enought in it to supply the city's normal needs up to September 1. Voters will be asked to authorize $2 millions in bonds to drill 80 shallow wells upstream from the city in the North Canadian river bottom. C. E. Bretz, consulting hydraulic engineer, estimates the wells will produce an emergency supply of 22 million gallons of water a day for a year, even if there is no rainfall to send water flowing down the river bed."
