Photograph used for a story in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper. Caption: "Ten days and billions of gallons of water made the difference in these pictures of the municipal boat dock area of Lake Hefner. The dry picture was made Saturday, May 21. Since then, the city's largest reservoir has risen 15 feet as the result if water flowing from the Northy Canadian. It gained 1.15 feet Tuesday, raising it above the highest level it reached last year. The peak elevation last year, from a flow in June, was 9 feet from capacity. The lake Wednesday was 8.9 feet from the full mark and due to be completely filled before the flow stops. Boats strandedmost of the year, high and dry from lack of water, have been moved back into the boat docks. For the first year since 1951, boat owners are assured of having water in the docks for the rest of the boating season. The city will have an 18 mongths' supply of water when both Lake Hefner and Overholser are filled. Some 8 to 9 billion gallons of water will be stored in Canton reservoir upstream, to be released on signal from city officials. The city reservoirs have taken a total of 10 billion gallon of water from the North Canadian river since rains began 2 weeks ago."

However, Bill Wishert, consulting bridge engineer, said the would not recommend to City council that the bridge be opened to traffic until sidewalk guardrails are complete. Looking north on the bridge, above, the open space betweed floored sections has been narrowing since the contract time expired earlier this month. Wishert estimated the council could open the bridge by December 1 or 15 without handrails. He estimates all work on the bridge will be completed by late February."
