The view of the city above, from the tower is lovely, but unless $211,731 more is received, Oklahoma City University's Gold Star Memorial library and School of Religion building will remain only a tower of steel scaffolding. Dr. C. Q. Smith, president of OCU, recieved pledges for $500,000 in 1947 - enough to complete the structure. Pledges don't pay wages or buy brick, however, so construction stopped as the cash ran out. Oklahoma City businessmen have promised to finish interior and furnish the building after state Methodist churches raise the $500,000 pledged. Meanwhile a few workers have been putting marble-crete on the first two floors, while the wind whistles through the deserted steel catwalks and beams 14 stories up."
