The fire alarm at Whit's Drive-In was turned in at 5:45 a.m. District Chief John Soergel said the fire appeared to have smoldered several houses before it was discovered. Damage was confined to a storeroom where the blaze orginated. Soergal said and short-circuit apparently touched it off. Owner Gene Whitaker, said most of the damage was to the building itself, with some $500 caused to assorted contents. he said the damage would have been higher if the fire had been in any other part of the building.
