Description: Photograph of an UNIDENTIFED farmer with horse drawn equipment constructing contour ridges on 60 acres of land being retired from cultivation. The back of the photograph proclaims, "Farmer constructing contour ridges on 60 acres of land which is being retired from cultivation. This is to be put to Bermuda grass and used for permanent pasture. The ridges are being built with these rounds of a long winged Kelly plow."

Drainage System Construction

Description: Photograph of Improved Drainage Ditch in Fame Bottom Farms Drainage project (see OK-8709 for view of unimproved ditch immediately above and adjoining these two farms). About 20% of the land in Fame Bottom very frequently produces crop failures due to excess water on the fields. Grass, Legume and Forb Cultivation

Description: Photograph of a legume crop on a strip mine spoil area. This fast growing plant was first planted about 8 years ago, but did not spread much until 1957. Mr. Burdett reports vines getting to 45 feet long in one growing season. A district cooperator since 1955. OK-1414-10.
