Burn Recovery Area

Description: Photograph of increased growth of switchgrass compared to earlier photos. This area was burned in August 1963. Switchgrass which spreads by rhyzomes was less damaged than bunch type grasses.

Wood Products

Description: Photograph of charcoaled wood from culled hardwoods. Many acres of LeFlore county soils are covered with cull hardwoods. Where the soil is well suited to tame pasture production, many land owners are removing the cull hardwoods in order to establish the area to improve pasture plants. By charcoaling the cull hardwoods a usable product is secured and a help in the cost of pasture development is realized.

Description: Photograph of a heavily timbered area that was in poor range condition. Early June 1955 tow pounds of Kuron (propionic acid) per acre was applied by aero plane. All vegetative growth of shrubs and trees was controlled on 90 % of the shrubs and trees. A definitive percentage of tree kill could not be determined at this time but a tremendous growth of primarily little bluestem can be observed even directly underneath the trees. Wildhorse Watershed Waterway

Description: Photograph of waterway. This gully was a critical silt source area on the flood plain of Wildhorse Watershed. Gully was shaped into a watersay and a pond was built at the head of it with a pipe in it (Ok-14131-3 & 4). Waterway will be needed this fall and sprigged with rows 18' apart, and fertilized. Water Conservation; Water Erosion; Flooding and Prevention

Description: Photograph of flood damage caused by overflow waters of Cottonwood Creek. Over 5 blocks of Highway # 33 in Guthrie, Oklahoma were covered by water for 12 hours, causing approx. 100 families to leave their houses. Enormous damage was done to crops, soils, highways and bridges and other public and private property. Buildings on the left belong to the Mid-Continental Petroleum Company and tracks of the railroad spur and yards in the background. OK-8327.

Push-type double disk openers (International) are spaced at 8 inches on a strong angle-iron frame. Description: Photograph of a specially-constructed grader made from an old road maintainer. It has no front wheels and hitches to the tractor for frontal support.
