"Advertise well! you will never regret it:
Nothing more wise can a business man do.
Stick to this motto and never forget it:
Advertise well-it will see you safe through.
Advertise well; do not think what 'twill cost;
Printers' bills are but friends in disguise.
How do you know what your caution has cost?
If you would be wealthy you must advertise."
Editorial Mention.
"Here's freedom to him who would read.
Here's freedom to him who would write;
For none ever feared that the truth should be heard.
Save he whom the truth would indict/'
There has been considerable
talk lately regarding school fa-
cilities for the coming school
year and it isn't any too early to
begin planning for our future
needs. It must be patent to
even the most casual observer
that at least four teachers and
four rooms will be necessary to
accommodate all the children
next fall and winter, and the
thing that concerns each and
every one of us is how to secure
these accommodations and main-
tain the schools. Until the town
is incorporated not much can be
done except think of the best
way to meet conditions. But we
should be ready to act as soon as
the town is incorporated. The
Chief favors issuing bonds, if it
can be done, and building a good
four-room school house—two
rooms above and two below.
The school board has already
adopted a set of modern school
books such as are used in the
most progressive cities of the
two territories.

Speaking of schools reminds
The Chief that perhaps nothing
else will enhance land values
more, nor be of more lasting ben-
efits to the town, than a good
system of free graded schools.
Let the schools of Konawa be-
come noted for their thorough-
ness and worth and many fami-
lies will move here to educate
their children. Every family!
that moves here means several
hundred dollars spent for food
and clothing and every merchant
in town will be benefited. It
means that more houses will be
built and that houses will be eas-
ily rented. This means that ar-
tisans will find steady employ-
ment. In short, it means that
the money spent in establishing
and maintaining schools will be
the best possible investment.
How much more goods will the
merchant have to sell to pay an
extra school tax? and how many
more people will it take to spend
the extra amount in order for
the merchant's profits to more
than double the extra tax? Let
each one figure a little bit and
see if good schools are not al-
ways worth many times more to
each individual than they cost.
The Chief favors, as one of the
best methods of advertising the
town, the holding of a three days
picnic sometime about the first
of September; and it not only
favors holding it this year, but
believes that it should be made
an annual affair. Other towns
have tried it to their entire satis-
faction and thousands of country
people look forward to the picnic
week with longing and glad an-
ticipation. It affords the people
amusement and brings them to-
gether in a manner to create
good-will and good-fellowship.
The Chief believes the people of

Konawa are progressive enough
to take hold of this thing and
make an annual three days pic-
nic a howling succes?. It should
come at a time when farmers are
not busy and when the weather
is most likely to be favorable.
While the entertainment should
be changed each year, The Chief
believes that one feature that
should be introduced and main-
tained is the display of farm pro-
ducts and to encourage this of-
fering of suitable prizes for the
best specimens of each crop dis-
played. This is a matter that
the Commercial club could prof-
itably take in hand and it isn't
I any too early to take the matter
| in hand and begin to push it.
