SOUTH BOUND
many people much hard work
and many sleepless nights, was
decided Saturday in a very hon-
orable and satisfactory’ manner.
It was a matter of the great-
est importance of any that have
ever come before the people of
the new county, as was evidenc-
ed by the interest taken. Both
aides worked hard for two
monhts showing the points of
merit for their respective towns.
In our home town Altus’ in-
terests were especially and ably
looked after by Mess. W. C.
White, R. A. Shield, M. L. Port-
wood and D. Y. Jameson. These
are men of popularity, integrity
and judgment. They worked
hard for the cause they thought
right, and brought good results.
The election was carried on in
a way that absolutely prevented
illegal voting, except that a vot-
er swear a falsehood.
In this voting box there was
some arguing but everyone was
jolly and in a good humor and
the election passed off most
agreeably.
The first returns received here
was the Blair vote—171 for A!-
tus and 51 for Olustee. Soon
reports began coming in from
other places and people assem-
bled at the telephone office eager
to hear. When all boxes were
heard from Altus had a majority
of 740. Most everybody ex-
pressed themselves as being per-
fectly satisfied. Even men who
were formerly for Olustee said
they are now for Altus and will
work for and defend her as their
county seat.
Following, we give a correct
report, though it is not the of-
ficial announcement:
erybody invited to come and
bring dinner and have a good
time.
