STATE UNIVERSITY NEWS.
Judge J. S. Estes of Oklahoma City
cave a very able and scholarly address
lefore the Young Mens' Christian As
sociation of the university last week.
"The University Semi-Weekly I'm-
plre" the college student organ and
reputed to be one ot the bent college
newspapers in the t'nitd States is out
with a hard luck story Just now to the
effect that the merchants are not ad-
vertising. The merchants allege hrd
times and the management of the pa-
per is publishing a statement showing
the amount spent each year by the
student body. The paper is conduct-
ing a hot campaign to persuado the
students to trade with those who ad-
vertise in its columns.
The University Glee Club gave its
first annual concert at the Franlng
Friday night and delighted the largo
audience with one of tho most finished
and entertaining programs ever given
la Norman. The concert was entirely
by members of the club and under the
direction of its conductor Prof.
George Seymour Lenox of tho depart-
ment of music. The class of work
done by the club was a distinct sur-
prise to all. While the club Is young
in the university It Is especially strong
having thirty members and being rat-
ed by critics who have heard It the
best In the southwest. It Is probable
that the success of the concert will
induce Dean Holmberg of the school
of flne arts to yield to the many re-
quests from over the state and pernt
the club to make a tour of the larger
cities under the auspices of tho Uni-
versity Extension Course bureau.
The management of the college pa-
per and the Christian associations of
the school are gathering data on the
expense of all students attending the
university.
Another has been added trf the some-
what extended list of books given to
the public by members of the univer-
sity faculty. The latest volume la by
Professor Barrett of the department
of education who has already pub-
lished volume books dealing with his-
tory and pedagogy as well as more pop
ular works. "Mocco" the story of an
Indian's life from childhood to' man's
estate Is his latest production. Critics
pronounce It of merit both as a work
of fiction and as a historical study and
predict for It a healthy sale. Duffeld
& Co. of New York are the publish
ers.
"The Orange and Black" the stu
dent publication of the Oklahoma Agri
cultural and Mechanical college ex-
presses the belief that the Sooner bas-
ket ball forwards "could throw baskets
with their eyes shut."
The incomplete Sooner football
schedule for next fall as announced
this week 'includes games with nine
schools. It Is ns follows: Kingfisher
college nt Norman; Oklahoma Chris-
tian University at Norman; North-
eastern State Normal at Norman;
Texas University at Dallas; Missouri
University at Norman; Kansas Uni-
versity at Lawrence; Oklahoma A. &
M. Colleg at Norman and Colorado
University at Denver. The dates are
yet to be arranged. It is likely that
games will be scheduled with the
Texas "Aggies" and Washburn Col-
lege and possible that Arkansas Uni-
versity will be brought to Norman ns
the second of the two big games to be
played nt home. This schedule will
be even stlffer than the ditllcuit one
of hist year and Coach Owen will have
his work cut out for him if hu puts
over another all-victorious eleven.
The library receives and keeps on
file a daily newspaper published in
Germany. It Is tho "Central-Auzei-ger"
of Magdeburg. They seem to be
having about as much stir over the
pond politically at present as we are
having in our own land of Taft Teddy
Bryan LaFollette et al.
C. W. McFerron engineer '11. visit-
ed his parents in Norman the past
week lie is employed by the Okla-
homa Engineering company and makes
hi3 headquarters ftt Oklahoma City.
The state board of affairs was in
Norman Tuesday inspecting the new
administration building of the univer-
sity. It Is complete and will be oc-
cupied in the near future. It will ac-
commodate more classes than all
other buildings on the campus com-
bined. Over one hundred men most of them
university students banquetted at the
Christian church in Norman Tuesday
night and heard addresses by Archi-
bald McLean president of the Foreign
Missionary Society and others.
