For tbe next sixty days many
atates will be afflicted with sessions
of the legislature. All the evils
- afloat are Dot to be found in tbe
llndian country.
The legislature of Nebraska has
started in to make the crime of
kidnapping punishable by impris
onment and to impose tbe death
penalty when violence is used.
Charlev Curtis baa delivered
' -himself on the statehood question
IIe would make one county of tbe
whole Indian territory to save ex
penses. "A Daniel come to judg
ment yea a Daniel."
The obstructionists in the city
council who for inexplicable rea.
eons refuse to be up-to-date in the
.matter of public improvements
will certainly have to answer to
their constituents if ever they
show their heads as candidates for
public office again.
The matter of good roads around
Vinita is one of pressing import
ance. With the expenditure of a
.'few hundred dollars the roads
; leading to this town could be kept
in a passable condition. Many a
. load of grain goes to other points
on account of the wretched condi
tion of the roads.

A Woman's Revenge.
The presentation of "A Woman's
Revenge";last night by the members
of the Price -Arlington theatrical
company was fully up to the standard
of excellence set by the company when
here . before. Miss Bonuair Price
commanded the admiration .of the
audience by her clever acting attract
ive poses and rich costumes. All tbe
other members of tbe cast
performed their parts so acceptably
that to mention any one of them par-
ticularly would be an injustice to the
others. Tonight "Maud Muller" will
be presented and tomorrow afternoon
a matinee will be given with an ad
mission of ten cents to any part of the
house. This company Is .of a higher
class than any repretoire aggregation
that has yet visited Vinita.

A correspondent wants to know
by what authority and at whose
expense Chief T. M. Buffington is
spending the winter in Washing
ton. We are not able to answer.
"The chief is perhaps paying his
own expenses and has as much
right to go to Washington as a pri-
vate citizen as any one else. We
do not understand that he claims
to represent the nation or expects
tbe Cherokee people to pay his
. Expenses.

Territory
Ever since tbe construction of the
'M. K. & T. Ry. thro'igh the Indian
Territory its local passenger rate be-
tween stations in the Indian Terri-
tory has been on the basis of five cents
a mile. The customary rate of pas
senger fares on railroads except ih
sparsely .settled country is three
cents a mile. The population of the
Indian Territory has grown rapidly;
there has been a large increase of
passenger traiHc on this account and
the Katy officials recognizing the
wants of the people and the justice of
so doing have voluntarily arranged
to reduce the local passenger rate to
a basis of three cents a mile. This
reduction will take effect about. Nov-
ember first. There will be great re-
joicing among the residents along
the line of the M. K. & T.
