tain streets and alleys with connec-
tions to the Marks artesian well was
referred to the ordinance committee.
Mr Ham's request that the city pay
t he cost of laying a sidewalk in front
of her property. Keferred to streets
and alleys committee. A petition of
property osvners asking that an alley
be opened in block 42 was also referred
to the commit tee on st reets and alleys.
An ordinance designed to protect
public buildings from being defaced
by writing upon the walls etc. was
passed.
Upon motion made by Alderman
Clinkscales and seconded by Alderman
Hendricks the council instructed the
park committee to confer with a like
commit tee from t lie commercial club
and arrange for the plant ing of trees
in South Park the cost to the city
not to exceed $100. Alderman Lee
o tie red an amendment to this motion
including North Park but the amend-
ment was lost all members except
Lee voting No.
An ordinance appropriating -tlK9 1. 2 !
to settle claims against the city was
passed.
Ed Wahbonrne' Store Burned.
The general 'merchandise store 'of
Ed Washbourne at Eucha on Spavi-
nasv was destroyed by fire last night.
Mr. Washbourne was away from home
at South West City and the store was
left in the hands of clerks. A large
invoice of new spring goods had just
been received. The amount of insur
ance or whether any is not known.
