concluded to sell their retail busines".

that the Jail ought to be rebuilt and

a proper ono and sustained by "ample

one l do not think that nplnco which
in its present nnturo and intent is a

a luxurious relroat for winter board-

deslro It in preference to freedom nnd

men from crime in the fact that a J ill

that repeatedly men seek tho lodging

This being trtto I bellove that there is

The El Kono Kaglo says: Governor
Hon fro v has appointed Gen. J C.
Jamison adjutant gcncrnl of the terri-
tory. Although tho olllce of adjutant
general Is little more than an honor-
ary position yet it could not have been
more worthily bestowed. No man in
the wost has had moro varied ex-
perience in military affairs than Gen
Jamison lie wns a soldier in the
Mexican war and under the gallant
Douahan who led tho Missouri troops
ho participated in tho most famous
march in modern history.
Aftor tho Mexican war was over ho
enlisted with Walker in that disastcr-
otts "lllllblstorlng expedition" on Nica-
ragua The general's experience in
this epeditiou which cost tho lives of
so mnnv Americans would make an
Interesting book.
After this expedition ho returned to
Missouri and when tho civil war began
he allied himself with Confederacy
and wns commissioned colonel on Gen.
l'rico's BtniT and tho gallant service
rendered the lost cause is a matter of
history.
When Gen. Mnrmaduko was elected
governor of Missouri ho appointed
Gen. Jamison adjutant general of that
state a position thnt he held for four
years General Jamison has been a
resident of Oklahoma since tho open-
ing and wns n strong candidate for
governor under this administration.
Ho is a man of commanding presence
