Statehood is on the Senate pro
gram for consideration for the holi
(1 lys. The press dispatches hold
out bright hopes for early action.
School buildings in 1903; water-
works and sewers in 1904; side
walks in J005. This is the way
the history of Chickasha is to
read.
Congressman Stephens is active
early in the session in introducing
measures for the rel ief of the terri-
tory. The most important measure
is the bill removing restrictions
from the sale of Indian lands. With
statehood and the removal of these
restrictions the B. I. T. will be a
lively place during the next few
years.
The proposition of the street
and alley committee to create
improvement districts hold out per-
haps the best possiblities for side-
walk building. The Express in-
vestigated the Arkansas law on
the subject .some months ago and
in conference with city officials it
was agreed that something could
pel haps be done along this line.
Side-walks are coming they will
be built within the next year.
There's no reason why our real
estate should not be taxed next
year and the city will have funds
to build crossings and make
other public improvements. Mean-
time while the city is getting
ready for action the property
owners might just as well be put
ting down their walks. The win-
ter season presents an urgent nec-
essity for them. Just as well build
them now and be getting the bene-
fit of them. Build the walks and
be leaders In the movemantto make
Chickasha a better town in which
to live.

An Intellectual Treat
In Store for Chick asha Rev. An-
na Shaw Coming.
The Woman Suffragists of Indi-
an Territory are claiming that
they are bringing to Chickasha the
intellectual treat of the season in
the lecture of their National Presi-
dent Rev. Anna Howard Shaw of
Philadelphia.
Dr. Shaw's ministry to the world
consists in preaching a gospel of
applied Christianity not merely in
delivering sermons compounded of
scriptural texts with expansions
but in applying a general golden
rule standard to all the questions
of the day. As vorae one has said
"She is conducting a magnificent
itinerary in the interest of social
reforms."
Her keen wit and irresistible
logic puncture the bubbles of
sophistry by which men seek to de-
fend selfish wrong doing but the
charm of her musical voice the
sincerity of her outspoken convic-
tions the kindliness evidenced to-
ward a sinner even while condemn-
ing sin compels the admiration of
those who most widely dissent
from her proposition.
The Las Angcler Times speak-
ing of her lecture on "The New
Man" says: "Miss Shaw's rich
voice and quiet delivery made
doubly attractive her brilliant ad-
circus. Her sallies of wit and her
pointed sarcasms were greeted
with ripples of laughter which
sometimes developed into roars
followed by delightful applause
while her high minded views of
the solution of the sex problem
found sympathy in the hearts of
her hearers."
The ad mission will be free. A
collection a ill be taken.
A
Artistically Portrayed by Mr.
Crane ai Jackman & Lemon's
Have you noticed Jackman &
Lemon's show window? It is a
sjecimen of unique and most artis-
tic window dressing.
Mr. W. A. Crane win came to
Jackman & Lemon from Chicago
some months ago was the artist.
He mv'e a specialty of window-
dressing on State Street in Cliicagt
for four years and has the origi-
nality the talents and experience
which fit him to do the highest
class work.
In his latest effort IMr. Crane
lias made a most decided hit- A
church wedding is represented.
The entire window is lined with
handkerchiefs of every discription
and a church is constructed of the
same. Just emerging from the
door are the bride and groom in
full dress following by their atten-
dants. Of course there is the ine
vitable rice-thrower skulking in the
rear. The groom looks a trifle
nervous as is natural under the
circumstances The bride and at
tendants are all very appropriately
attired.
Prospective venturers on the
matrimonial sea will find many
valuable p titers from the scene and
everyone who enjoys pretty artis
tic effects will enjoy seeing the
window.

has accepted a similar position with
the Lee Live Stock Company. Mr-
Jones made many warm friends

he is to leave St. Soe News and
Press.
Mr. Jones and family are spend-
ing a few weeks in Chickasha be-
fore going to their new home in
Kansas City. Scott made a splen
did record in St. Joe. He took
pecial attention to handle business
carefully that was sent to him by
his friends in the territory and he
succeeded in giving splendid satis-
faction. TheExr-RESs has heard
many compliments upon him from
shippers.
It is natural that Scott should
take special interest in his Chicka-
saw friends. He lived for years in
this country and knows nearly
every stockmen in the territory.
He is a whole-souled genial fellow
and a rustler for business. His
friends among the stockmen w ill
doubtless follow him to Kansas
