Congratulations to Barefoot and
Pugh on putting the dormitory bill
through the senate. The modest
amount called for by the measure
ought to make It acceptable to the
bouse especially in view of the urgent
need for It. Without a dormitory the
college cannot properly perform its
mission to the young women of the
state.

It may be a trifle disconcerting to
the faithful to note that the first two
appointments 'nade by Wilson after
the cabinet were Republicans both for
members of the interstate commerce

whose term had expired was re-appointed
and the secretary of the com-

The Inaugural it:e;-sag of Prt-siileut
Wiisoo will go into history as a mas-
terpiece. In :i!l the messages of fho
presidents there is nothing lo !u;ii:i..i'e
with it. Simple and brief to t::c point
or severity the Wilson message is in-
spirational. It breathes the dawn of
better tilings. .Not a syllable of triumph
is noted. The mesi-iige is a dedication

The inauguration of Pres. dent Wil-
son marks the j assing of the old type
of politician (whether Democratic or
Republican from the Washington
stage of political activity. It's a new
deal all around new no less for the
iJemocrats than the Republicans for
the reason that President Wilson rep-
resents the nevv character the new
idea the new force which has destroy-
ed alike the Quay and Piatt type of
Republicans and Sullivan-Ryan-Hel-mont

sweep all around and if Indications go
for anything it ushers in a better
brighter political era for all of the
people regardless of party affiliations.

ANNOUNCEMENTS.
The following announcements are
made subject to the Democratic pri-
mary March 18:
THE WOMAN QUESTION.
(Contributed.)
In Fph. 5:23 Paul said "The hus-
band is head of the wife" etc.
In Peter third chapter Peter said
"Wives be in subjection to your hus-
bands" etc. But the "Pulpiteer" of
today Is behind the times and lives
as in the by-gone ages when these
scriptures were written if he in this
age of progress and enlightenment
still clings to the "threadbare and
moth-eaten Idea of the inequality of
the sexes. He loses sight of the fact
that Paul and Peter were just simply
ordinary men with all the fallibility
and proneness to blunder that hedges
in the path of mankind today. Then
they lived in an age when women were
little more than "beasts of burden"
and at a time when the scales were
only just beginning to fall from the
eyes of man as he was emerging from
the period known as the "dark agen."
I thank my Cod that It was Paul and
Peter who said those things and not
Christ! And '.he preacher of today
who will hold tip such scripture as a
guide for the people of this progressive
age is a "buck mincer" and has mis-
taken his callins;. In his case the pro-
veibial "P. C." ('oes not mean "Preac-h
