AMERICANS HOLD
LIKE STONE WALL
LOCATIONS OF (DISCORDANT lUcts IN OliUMBLINO AUSTRIAN EMPIRE
Every Foot of Terrain Taken By Allies on the
Aisne-Marne Front Is Being Held By French
and Americans; Epieds and Villages East of
Mont St. Piere Fall to Americans.
BULLETIN.
With the American Army on the Aisne Marne Front July 23
Over night information docs not indicate any radical change in the
situation along the battle front. The prospects seemed to be that
today would be another of heavy attacks and counter-attacks with
Dot more than slight changes in the line.
The troops of General Pershing and General Petain are holding
almost every inch of ground they have gained since the counter
blow began on Thursday last. f
The Franco-American forces north of Chateau Thierry now are
holding Epieds and nearby villages and a bit of territory northeast
of Mont fit Pere. Farther east the enemy is continuing to counter-
attack unsuccessfully.
A withering enfilading fire from British and Italians on a
sector northeast of the Mame has taken a heavy toll of German
troops.
THOUSANDS OF GERMANS FALL INTO
ALLIES HANDS AS RETREAT CONTINUES.
With the American Army on the AUoc-Marne Front July 21
Along the greater part of the front the artillery fire was the chief
activity although at pLu-e brilliant infantry operations are taking
place while machine umn iets make every open field a potential
trap.
The number of prisoners has been increase"! by thousand and
a veritable niom.tain of captured and abandoned material i in the
pOKsewdon of the allien. Many nin taken had been Mow np or
dainapetl by the enemy before he abandoned tin in.
The nriiikh effort along the line near Khcima have leeu re-
warded by a hag of prjroiiers and machine gun.

The German are reported burning More and munition in the
area north of the Marne and iu the angle between the Marne and
the Ardre which flows into the Vesle at Finnic. Observer hold
