MAKE SALADS OF ALL KINDS
Many Tasty and Savory Dishes Are
Easily Prepared at a Very
Small Expense.
I mny havo told of the clever little
houBowlfo who used to muko a venl
pot plo with "plenty of gravy and sink-
ers and not much inent." Take a leaf
out of her book and feed your family
on BtowB with vegetables and light
delicate dumplings and well seasoned
gravy and seo If this will not suit
them as well as meat In coarse abund-
ance Try Italian combinations of
macaroni and cheese or noodles and
cheoBo enriched with a meat gravy.
Mako Bavory rice dishes In which the
meat Is a negllble quantity and Is yet
sufficient to render tho compound up
potizlng. Introduco salads of all kinds
with French dressing or majnnnnJHa
or one of tho good boiled dressings.
Turn to tho generous choice of vege-
tables that como to us in tho summer.
Fill tomatoes or poppers or cucum
bers or egg plant or potatoes with a
well seasoned Btufllng which contains
no meat or only enough to glvo zest to
tho food. Compose scallops along the
eaino line and vegetable stewn of a
like kind.
Do you think I am contradicting my-
Belf when I tell you in one breath to
simplify life and In tho next urge you
to Btudy variety? Tho two pieces of
counsel do not Interfere with one an
other. Tho time and strength you
save by reducing tho woik of keeping
your house clean and in order is not
all spent In cookery oven If you have
novelties on your table. They need
not requho much care or labor and tho
change of menu liko tho chango you
achieve by altering your room and its.

Tho experience of Motherhood is a try-
ing one to most women and marks dis-
tinctly on epoch in their lives. Not ono
womnn in n hundred a prepared or un-
derstands how to properly caro for her-
Bolf. Of courso nearly every woman
nowadays has medical treatment ntsuch
times but many approacli tho experi-
ence with nn organism unfitted for tho
trial of strength and when it is over
her system has received a shock from
which it is hard to recover. Following
right upon this comes tho nervous strain
of caring for tho child and a distinct
change in tho mother results.
There is nothing more charming than
a happy and healthy mother of children
and indeed child-birth under the right
conditions need bo no hazard to health or
boauty. The uncxplninablo thing ia
that with all tho evidence of shattered
nerves and broken health resulting from
an unprepared condition and with am-
ple time in which to prepare women
will persist in going blindly to tho trial.
Every woman nt this time should rely
upon Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetablo
Compound a most valuables tonic and
invigorator of the femalo organism.

No European has ever been able to

GOOD TIMES IN CANADA
BUSINESS PROSPERING TRADE
INCREASING AND FINANCE8
IN GOOD SHAPE.
Tho present tightening up of monoy
must not bo looked upon as being In
any seuso brought about by financial
stringency. It Is really moro a period
of stock-taking resorted to by tho
banks to ascertain tho truo condition
of tho finances and trade of tho coun-
try. Legitimate buslnoss enterprises
aio not affected. Throughout tho
States thoro aro thoso who If allowed
to continue borrowing would Inev-
itably bo a means towardB precipi-
tating something a good deal worBo
than they feel now. In Canada tho
conditions aro excellent and It Is
safe to say business was never bet-
ter. Tho pulBo of trade Is carefully
watched by tho Finance Department
of tho Dominion government and it
is illuminative to read portions of the
address of Hon. W. T. White tho
Financo Minister delivered a few days
ago beforo tho House of Commons.
Mr. Whlup's remarks aro In part as
follows:
"It falls agreeably to my lot to ox-
tond my most hearty congratulations
to tho Houso and the country upon
tho prosperous conditions which It
continues to bo our good fortune to
enjoy. I am happy to announce that
the outcome of the last fiscal year
which ended on March 31 will provo
even moro satisfactory as reflecting
by far tho highest pitch to which our
national prosperity has yet attained. I
havo every expectation that when tho
books aro closed it will bo found that
tho total revenuo will havo reached
tho splendid total of $1G8250000 or
an increase over tho year 1911-12 of
over $32000000. Somo indication of
tho magnificent growth of tho Domin-
ion may bo gleaned from tho fact that
this Increase In revenue during tho pe-
riod of ono year almost equals the en-
tiro revenue of tho country ooventy
years ago.
"The augmentation of revenuo to
which I havo referred has not been
Irregular spasmodic or Intermittent
in Its nature but has steadily charac-
terized each month of the entire fiscal
year. It was of course mainly derived
from Customs receipts but the other
sources of revenue excise post office
and railways also gave us very sub-
stantial Increases."
"That in a period of great finan-
cial stringency not only havo wjb not
been obliged to resort to tho con-
gested markets of tho world but have
been able to reduce so substantially
(523000000) tho debt of the Domin-
ion must be a mattqr of gratification
both to tho Houso and to tho people
of Canada.
"I believe that during this period
of exceptional money stringency tho
credit of the Dominion as reflected In
tho quotations of Its securities has
maintained itself among tho highest
in tho world."
Owing to tho favorable stato of its
finances Canada was In a position to
pay off a heavy loan in cash without
recourse to tho issue of bills or se-
curities. Ad Aisement.
ECZEMA SPREAD OVER BODY
R. F. D. No. 1 Lewisburg Ky. "Fif-
teen years ago I was badly affected
with eczema upon my scalp first then
it spread all over my body and con-
tinued to grow worso for four years.
It began with a dry rash. After form-
ing thick scales or scabs tho irritation
forced me to scratch tho scabs off and
tho hair would come out with them.
Upon my faco and body tho sores
would get inflamed and they disfig-
ured my face. It was worse where
my clothes irritated them. The erup-
tion was a yellowish watery kind
sometimes bloody. In warm weather
it was so bad I was not able to work
on account of tho raw Irritating sores
on my head and body.
"After trying various medicines
without relief I tried Cutlcura Soap
and Ointment. After using four cakes
of Cutlcura Soap and four boxes of
Cutlcura Ointment and one bottle of
tho Resolvent I was entirely sound
and well and have been for eleven

tlrat they can take a ton of sawdust
and get a quarter of a ton of sugar

Tho piocess consists of putting tho
sawdust Into a closed retort and sub-
jecting It to digestion with a weak
solution of sulphuric acid under a
pressure of from 90 to 100 pounds to
the square inch. Eighty per cent of
the sugar thus obtained is ferment-
