The Crphua Wright Case.
The itentence of Oplius Wrijjlit
the Indian who was convicted in the
federal court for murder in the terri-
tory and condemned to death ill
probably bi commuted to life impris-
onment. He was convicted aoout
two years a;o and appealed to the
I United State supreme curt which
j tribunal affirmed the sentence of the
lower court and he was resentenced j
at the last term of court with Thos.
Westmoreland to be hanged on the i
13lh day of next month. J. J. Brents 1
Fs'j. circulated a petition to the'
president laxt week asking that the
sentence be commuted ami secured
; the signatures of 2oo or more promi- 1
nent citizens. The petition was for-
warded to President Cleveland at
(iray Cables and on yesterday Mr.
Brents received a letter from him ac-
knowledging the receipt of the ptti-
tion and stating that it had been
sent to the attorney general for in-
vestigation. The ground on which
commutation is asked for is that the
condemned man was an untutored
savage at the time the crime was
committed. Unit lie is unable to
speak the English language and was
ignorant of what was transpiring
when he was being tried. The gen-
eral impression seems to be that
Wright will not be hanged.- Paris

Last flight two men who were
camped near the Ice factory tank
reported to Officer Pulliam that they
bad been robbed while asleep by
some one slipping up to their beds
and abstracting from their pocket
money to the amount of 113.50. Mr.
Pulliam went to the camp and there
truck trail which he followed into
town losing all trace on Springer
straet near I. H. Mason's residence.
The track was that of a man in bis
bare feet and was last seen at Mr.
Mason's gate. There the thief must
either have passed through the yard
or bugged the fence so closely as to
avoid making tracks. The names of
the parties robbed could not be as-
certained. For Ilent On Carter Avenue near
