The statement that ex-Governor T.

TWO CENT FARE.
Under the Constitution the two
cent fare law went into effect at 0
o’clock on the 16th inat. The rail-
roads will (jive uo more excursion
rates, or sell half fare tickets to
ministers, and will sell only to the
state line at this rate as I>etween
states will be regulated by the in
ter-state commerce commission. As
there will be more travel it is esti-
mated that the roads will earn as
much as formerly and the new rate
will be agreeable to the railroads
anil to the traveling public.
DIG STICK BROKEN.
Since coining back from his bear
hunt we have heard very little of
Teddy’s trust busting qualities and
he seems to l>e as silent as a clant
in regard to the financial situation
and he has done nothing to better
conditions, especially in the nest.
If the money stringency is due to
the operation of Wall Street bank-
ers, he should see that they remedy
the existing conditions as speedily
as possible. His big .-.tick seems to
have broken. It" it is due to his ut-
terances and actions, as the brokers
state, he is iu more of a position to
remedy that, than in the former
case. It seems that these Wall
Street fellows have completely tam-
ed the president and that he is sit-
ting idly by and doing very little to
better conditions. He should again
bring his big stick into action and
see to it that those fellows stop rob-
bery. He should imprison the
“criminal rich” as lie promised to
do.

WAY.
In the early summer, Missouri Pa-
cific officials announced that all of
their road-bed was in excellent con-
dition. In July, the Kansas rail-
way commission notified that com-
pany to make many very necessary
improvements. Ami now comes a
statement from Bailey VVaggener,
attorney for the company, that
nearly half a million dollars has
been expended in repairing tracks
in Kansas, and he also asks for fkl
days more time in which to com-
plete all necessary repairs. This is
positive proof that all the lines of
that company were, in a deplorable
condition 1 before repair -work was
begun. What do the i>cople who
object to government supervision of
railways think of such a condition?
Repairs are cheaper than wrecks

TRUST COMPANIES.
Trust Companies are patronized
bj over-confiding in-ople. Such
companies ought to Ik- compelled by-
law to safe guard their depositor's
money the same as state and nation-
al banks do. or they ought to he
legislated out of business. As at
present organized, they can use the
depositor's money in any way they
choose. The panic through which
we have ju-t passed, lias demon-
strated the weakness of trust com
panics. It lias also shown the
strength and security of our bank-
ing institutions, Imth state anil
national, and the wisdom of the
just restrictions under which the\
are operated. Our Oklahoma banks
have weathered the financial storm
and have proved that they have
Gibralterian strength and solidity.
The only way any one of them can
Ik- broken is by using nitroglycerine
and a Jittruy. But even that dan-
ger Ls avoided becau.se they are ad-
equately insured against loss by
burglary. Success to all honest
Oklahoma banker*.
IF MORGAN DID IT.
Admiral Schley says that the
New York money panic is self in-
flicted, and that J. 1*. Morgan clear-
ed ii)> f.">7,000,(M) alone on forcing
the Morse shipping interests to sell.
It is also reported that the United
States Steel Corporation made sev-
eral million on the forced sale of
the Tennessee Coal and Iron Co.
If these statements are correct
and these corporate interests have
assisted in bringing on the mone-
tary stringency, there is no blacker
crime in the history of any nation.
The man who sees the result of the
toil of years vanish on account of
the absence of ready cash with
which to do his business and is driv-
en to extremity an perhapu bank-
ruptcy by the coarse pursued by
these powerful interests, ought to
have a remedy against the possible
occurrence of Midi a scheme, and
no punishment can l>e too great for
the culprit who is a factor in bring-
ing about such a dilemma. He
should be made to feel the conse-
quences of hls crime the same as
any other criminal.
ernor Chanler of New York will be;
the man. With Bryan of Nebraska,
and (-hauler of New York, the dem-
ocrats could hardly fail to win in
the next campaign. \\V predict
their nomination and election.
