To the stranger crossing Okla-

panorama. In the northern tier of
counties, fields of splendid wheat
as far as the eye can see, the crops
becoming more varied as lie jour

spread before him of almost every
variety grown in the United States,
such a prospect for crops as Okla-

tfvery business man in Oklahoma
who has goods of any description
to sell and who uses the news-
papers for advertising purposes,
are now telling their patrons of the
advance in price of the goods they
handle. The cause ot the advance
in price of the manufactured arti-
cle can be traced to a raise in the
laborers wages. Those merchants
who bought large invoices of goods
previous to the advance iu price,
used good husiuess sense.
The board of equalization of Lo-
gan county, have raised the assess-
ment returns of their county more
than one million of dollars'. This
naturally decreases the rate of tax-
ation in a proportionate manner
which will be a splendid induce-
ment to cause the investment of
loreigu capital in that county.
Our equalization board tailed to
do so much as equalize the assess-
or’s returns, which is unjust, un-
fair and a discrimination against
the people who now live in this
county.
A little more tl an a year ago
the County Democrat used its col-
umns in publishing accounts of
business failures tl roiighout this
eouutry aud attributed “those fail-
ures directly to President McKin-
ley’s administration. All of this
uappened before the first twelve
mouths of Mr. McKinley’s admin-
istration bad expired. Several
months ago, however, Col. Fester
discovered that he was not telling
the truth aud his conscience has so
worried him over this matter for
several months that ho has forgot-
ten to correct any incorrect state-
ments he might have made.
