Friday, Auoust 5, 1904.
Judging from this week's
Warning orders, some force is
trying to undo the work of
Cupid.
The Nj;W8 circulation is in-
creasing by bounds. The mat-
ter that appears in the News
goes before more optics each
week.
Would that Father Time would
oomo along with his blade and
cut down somo of thoso weeds in
town. Wo don't believe they
are all going to fall otherwise.
August is here with her sooroh
ing sunshine, and not much olse.
Of all the months in the year,
August is one of the most unde-
sirable to pass through or live
through.
The streets have been under
going a leveling; up prooess, and
the improvement is very noticea-
ble Nothing is better than good
smooth streets. We want good
streets as well as good roads,
and we must have both.
The first of the month has pass-
ed and the bill collectors have
made their rounds, so if the lin-
ing of your purse is not to badly
torn, get down to business and
prepare for the next first which is
just twenty-pix days from date.
The blade has been used on
main Boulevard and the weeds
are down. The street looks now
more like what its name would
indicate. Slay the weeds and
slay that obnoxious disease and
beautify the town.
Monday the town was "ohock"
full of people, and there was
something doing. Everyone
seemed to be feeling good,
There were few or no faoes that
seemed to be an index to a case
of "mulligrubs." Ouf people
in the oountry have no occasion
for complaining, but muoh cause
for an opposite feeling. That's
the idea, come to town and set
something to doing*
Tobe Doot was in town this
week. He saw the big ad of
Zaoharias ft Keiffer in the News
and oame in to saok some of their
bargains. He says that "them
fellers is as straight as an orrow
and make a fellers money stretoh
like dough. I wor in that
Itore Monday and every thing
was powful purty, and the goods
I bought will ware like a pig's
snout" _________
The News is now In its tenth
volume. It has laid aside its
••Buster Brown" suit, and al
most passed beyond the ' 'bare-
toot boy" stage. Its knee
pants are getting tight indeed,
and we hope soon to be able to
see the bursting of them, and
the buying of the long pant style
from some of our merchants that
advertise. With patent leather
shoes, a scissor-tail ooat and
high oollar, wouldn't we be
Bwell.
The Paoific Mutual Life Insu-
rance Company has and ad in
