cal north-bound freight was late
Marshall had rigged a chain to a
car that had no drawbead and bad
signaled the engineer to back-up
for the coupling When the mov-
ing section of the train waa with-
in five feet of the crippled car
Marshall stepped between- the
care to m’ake the coupling 'An-
other brakeman saw the danger
yelled kt Marshall and gave an-
other signal to the engineer to
stop but it was' too hto The
force of the impact was checked
but it - was enough to wound the
man fatally " - ‘
Dr Omqr' the Frisco surgeon
found that Marshall’s breast had
been crushed but no bones were
broken He died from internal
hemorrhage He was conscious
until within a few minotes of his
death and said that the accident
was dne to his own carelessness
The dead man was taken to his
home at Wellington Kansas Sat-
urday He waa 33 years old and
leaves a wife He was a member
of the Order of Hallway Conduct-
ors and the Brotherhood of Ei'i-
