We hear considerable adverse
comment concerning the selling
of the Gip church building
There appears to be some spite
work somewhere connected with
the sale
Miles Morton and his sisters
returned from several weeks
visit in Montana last week
They say that they liked the
country up there but it was
terribly cold
The judges gave the affirmi-
tive the decision in the debate
at Vicksburg last Friday night
on preparedness People gener-
ally believe in preparedness
considerably more than we have
Rev H M James preached
at Independence last Sunday
Mr James was pastor there
several years ago and preached
at Vicksburg also We consider
him as able a preacher as was
ever on this circuit
Chas Forsythe of Leedey was
down to attend Frank Shively’s
funeral Chas lived here sev-
eral years ago lie h so chan-
ged that we scarcely knew him
A couple of years ago he was
caught in a cave in a sand bank
and rendered a permanent crip-
ple lie said he had scarcely
extricated himself when the
place where he was held was
covered with 18 ft of sand
P F (Frank) Shively was
born in Ind in 1869 Departed
this life Febr 22 1916 The
cause of his death was not clear-
ly diagnosed but was thought to
be cancer of the bladder He
had been ailing for the past six
months but not seriously only
about a month He was taken
to the Clinton hospital for an
operation but was in no condi-
tion to undergo one so he died
without being operated o n
Frank came to Custer county 21
years ago and homesteaded
where he has resided over since
He married Miss Anna Forsythe
to this union hve children were
born all of whom survive him
He was greatly wrapped up in
his family for them he lived
and their comfort was his great-
est joy He took an active part
in the affairs of his community
and will be greatly missed
The funeral was held a t
Vicksburg conducted by Rev
W H Stigler pastor of Baptist
church at Custer He took his
text from Col 3— last clause of
11th verselt was one of the best s
sermons ever preached at Vicks-
burg The funeral was the lar-
gest ever witnessed in these
parts Interment was made in
Mt Hope cemetery
