County agent's
NOTEBOOK
By L D Warkentin
That bright gleam in the eyes of
Canadian county egg producers
isnt the result of pullets produc-
ing platinum eggs or anything Like
that Its simply that they see a
bright future ahead when the
states new egg law goes into
effect September 1
After that our egg men are ex-
pecting to be paid according to the
quality of their product for the
first time in history No longer
will all eggs bring the same price
regardless of care age or cleardi-
ness This means dirty eggs and those
of inferior quality resulting from
improper care will find buyers
scarce and the price low whereas
those who produce and offer for
sale eggs that are clean gathered
often cooled and marketed at
least twice a week will find a
ready market at a fair price
Hundreds of Oidahomans are ex-
pected to secure a license to grade
their own eggs for delivery to
grocery stores or direct to con-
sumers To sell graded eggs they must i
meet the requirements of the law !
however egg grading is not diffi-
cult and those who are in such a
program say the program pays
well for the time required
Many producers will prefer to
sell their eggs direct to a local egg
handler who will buy on grade !
similar to the method used in the !
milk industry
This has the advantage of allow
log the producer to F pend all of his
time in production and leave the
marketing to someone in that busi-
ness The county agent has available
all details regarding the new
quality egg program as well as in '
formation on how to secure an
egg grading license and he will
welcome the opportunity to help
local producers make the most of
the new egg law
