World Evangelism Through
the Church
Scripture: Matthew 28:18-
20 Acts 13:1-3 Romans 1:14-
18
Introduction: The mission of
the church is very important in
world evangelism Without the
efforts of the church in a com-
bined add unified effort of wit-
nessing the world will grow
more wicked Missionaries are
needed at home and abroad It
is the church who was com-
missioned to send people How-
ever let us not think of mis-
sionaries only in foreign coun-
tries One may be a missionary
in his own home or community
The word missionary to us
would mean one who has the
gospel message for those un-
churched I Reasons for Missions: Love
compels man to do many things
Love for Jesus ought to be a
motivating factor in setting up
missions throughout the world
Love is not the only compelling
force of motivation in world
evangelism but Jesus commands
His people to go
Notice the words of Matthew
28:18-20 Jesus said "all pow-
er is given me in heaven and in
earth go ye therefore and teach
all nations baptizing them in
the name of the Father and of
the SOrt and of the Holy Spirit
teaching them to observe all
things whatsoever I have com-
manded you: and lo I am with
you always even unto the end
of the world" First we have
the command of Jesus to make

believers (disciples) otit of men
of all nationalitits The only
way to make believers is to teada
them God"s word concerning
salvation After believers are
made Jesus commands the ad-
ministration of baptism A great
deal of controversy may be
found as to the real significance
of baptism Some hold to the
idea it is essential in completing
the act of salvation while others
do not Jesus said through the
writings of John 4:1-3 that
Ile Himself did not baptize any-
one but Ills disciples did There-
fore Jesus placed little empha-
sis upon the idea that baptism
completes the at of salvation
Did not Jesus come as an ex-
ample? God Promises Power in
World Evangelism
The Holy Spirit of the Liv-
ing God was promised by Jesus
to the people of the world
Without the presence and power
of the Holy Spirit no man can
be saved Jesus said in John
16:7-8 "nevertheles I tell you
the truth: it is expedient for you
that I go away: for if I go not
away the Comfortor will not
come unto you but if I depart
I will send Him unto you And
when He is come He will re-
prove the world of sin and of
righteousness and of judgment"
Without the Holy Spirit speak-
ing to the soul of the christian
he would not know which way
to turn Read the 16th chapter
of John and see what Jesus
promises through the comforter
(Holy Spirit)
The early New Testament
church received the power on
the day of Pentecost They were
empowered for the much needed
work of ministering the gospel
to a Pagan world Acts 13:1-4
we find the Holy Spirit active
speaking to the church of Anti-
och saying "separate me Bar-
nabas and Saul for the work
where unto I have called them"
then the church had fasted and
prayed they sent them away So
they (Saul and Barnabas) be-
ing sent forth by the Holy
Ghost departed unto Selecia
- thu3 beginning their first mis-
sionary journey Who can deny
or doubt the power of the Holy
Spirit when it is so vividly
taught in the New Testament?
Only those who deny the power
of God
Conclusion: Power is sought
by men in industrial realms at
great expense God's power is
given only for the asking May
each of us use and direct our
lives under the leadership of the

Parade of Sports
By Randy Ransford
Among the basketball coach-
ing fraternity you'll occasional-
ly hear a lively discussion con-
cerning rules enforcement and
how it varies from one part of
the country to another Coaches
from the far west will complain
that when they travel to the
mid-west or to the east for a
game officials will enforce mi-
nor rules and very technical as-
pects of the rule book that are
either ignored or are unknown
in the visitor's own neighbor-
hood Of course you hear the
same complaint when the east-
ern ball clubs travel west or a
team from the north invades
rebel territory
It was such a situation that
caused Cincinnati radio and
newspaper people to grumble
slightly after the Bearcats lost
a three-point 'decision to Kansas
State in the recent NCAA get-
together in Lawrence With one
second showing on the clock
and Kansas State leading Cin-
cinnati 74-73 the Ohian's great
forward Oscar Robertson was
awarded two free throws when
fouled in the act of shooting
Two points of course would
have given Cincinnati a 75-74
lead with just one second to go
Robertson who never seems to
be bothered by pressure calmly
sank the first charity toss But
then the trouble began Oscar
was banded the ball by one of
the officials However the Ne-
gro star did not step to the free-
throw line immediately In-
stead he walked over to a couple

of his teammates and carried on
a bit of conversation ostensibly
concerning the Bearcats' defens-
ive strategy after the shot was
attempted Robertson was either
unaware of the rule that re-
quires a player to attempt a free
throw within ten seconds after
he is handed the ball or be for-
got it in the excitement of the
moment
Suddenly one of the Cincin-
nati ball players heard the of-
ficial counting off the seconds
In fact the count was at seven
when Robertson realized what
was happening He ran up to
the free-throw line consuming
another precious second then
got rid of the ball—flipping it
out of his hinds like a hot po-
tato The hurried shot skipped
off the back of the rim and the
game ended 74-74 In the five
minute overtime with Robert-
son fouling out only a minute
after the extra period began
Kansas State outscored the east-
erners 9 to 6 and won the all
important clash 83-80
After the game Cincinnati
fans were up in arms The sports
writers shouted "We wuz
robbed" This was later toned
down a bit upon a closer check
of the rule book Then came the
charge that the rule was not en-
forced in the Ohio territory and
points east There is not much
doubt however that this rule
is enforced rigidly all over the
country It is only because none
of the Cincinnati players were
guilty of the infraction during
regular season play that nobody
seemed to know the rule was
around The best thing that
could have happened to George
Smith's crew would have been
having had that infraction called
against them earlier in the sea-
son The fact that it wasn't
possibly cost Cincinnati a na-
tional championship
