The students of the Rocket
Research Club of Bethany High
School are busy these days mak-
ing rockets and flying them at
Ft Sill with excitement run-
ning high according to teacher
and sponsor Mrs Wesley
Moon
L E Lewis math and chem-
istry teacher at Southeast High
School is sponsor of the city-
wide Rocker Research Club of
which Bethany High is a Chap-
ter member Nine students and
sponsors Dr and Mrs Wesley
Moon and Miss Virginia Tate
motored to Ft Sill early last
Thursday morning March 13
Two rockets were fired from
the Bethany school club The
"Bronco" painted in school
colors of purple and white with
the lettering "The Bronco Will
Go Up 'and Bust" was made
by a group of students of Beth-
any High Shcool as a group
project the rocket received a
rating of excellent
The second rocket named
"The Dawson Drifter" made
by Junior student Jackie Daw-
son was entered in the Science
Fair held Thursday March 13
at Bethany High School re-
ceived an excellent rating
The rockets numbered 8 and
9 were used in the range firing
The Bronco had the farthest
range with analtitude of 3100
feet in 29 seconds at a launch-
ing angle of 70 degrees
The Kbest rocket fired at
Ft Sill on Thursday reached
a heighth of 4600 feet at 85 de-
grees The launchi-ng angle hav-
ing been changed to secure safe-
ty When the groups of 4 truck
loads of youngsters from var-
ious schools entered the US
Army range they were given
rules and regulations to abide
by during their stay and during
the mass firing
- The courteous attitude and
interested personell of the US
Army was greatly appreciated
according to Mrs Wesley Moon
math and chemistry teacher at
Bethany High The army's at-
titude toward the participating
pupils was a reply of "If we
can interest only one boy in
making this sort of thing his
life's work we fell that we have
been adagutely repaid for all our
efforts
The Bethany Rocket Research
Club are in need of a financial
sponsor in order to further their
completions of "building bigger
and better rockets" the ambi-
tion of the 16 enthusiastic mem-
bers of the club

Due to the recent show storm
the combined study group meet-
ing of First Grade and Fourth
and Fifth Grade mothers has
been rescheduled for Thursday
March 27 at 10:00 am at the
Ellcs Lodge 4600 N Tulsa
Dr W H Cooper dentist and
former member of the Putnam
City Board of Education will
address the group on "The Im-
portance of Diet to Normal
Growth and Resistance to Dis-
ease" He is a member of the

ted at a recent meeting and

ordinator is serving as tempor-
ary chairman The meeting will
be in the Kirkland auditorium

The Bethany senior high
school band and mixed chorus
vocal placed first in the annual
Invitation Music Festival held
March 13-14 at the Central
State college in Edmond
Forty-seven different schools
participated in the annual affair
Divisions of cholar groups in-
cluded boys' choruses girls' cho-
ruses and mixed choruses Other
contest divisions were girls' and
boys' solos trios quartets and
sextets
Instrumental activities divi-
sion included bands ensembles
and individual solos
Travis Mullins vocal teacher
and Robert Dillon band direc-
tor stated this was the third
year for Bethany to place first
in these participations receiving
trophies each year for their winnings

Livestock Show
When the states Future Far-
mer's of America and 4-H Club
boys and girls headed for this
years big show March 9-13 in
Oklahoma City they were quar-
tering their prized animals in
new facilities — the livestock
barns at State Fair Park This
gave the Junior Livestock Show
one of the most modern settings
of any similar show in the na-
tion These large up-to-date quar-
ters gave opportunity for the
realization of long-time dreams
of expansion heretofore ham-
pered by limited space at the
stockyards
Several hundred of Oklahoma
City's business and professional
men have been bard at work
for the last several weeks mak-
ing preparations for the show
The many hundreds of details
involving a show of this type
were further multiplied by the
location change
Prospective buyers filled the
auction sale barn there March
13 The public attended the
"Animal Aristocrats" on Sun-
day afternoon March 9 look-
ing over the stock and visiting
with the exhibitors Governor
Raymond Gary auctioned the
top animals with buyers com-
peting in the bidding
Men were wearing large cow-
boy hats moving at a rapid
pace giving their time to make
the visiting farm youths stay
successful and an event to look
forward to each year were Ok-
lahoma City businessmen
The Chamber of Commerce
sponsored a Chuck Wagon
Lunch from 11:00 to 12 noon
on Thursday March 13
occupying a new place there
The prescription shop has been
enlarged and new parking areas
are a thing of appreciation by
all hurry-up customers

The C and C Cleaners in
the hub are sporting a large
new sign atop their cleaning
shop roof wise with the large
bold red lettering "Cleaners"
touched off with day and night
lighting neon '
The Martin Drug has had a
new face lifting and is clean
and fresh with its newly decor-
ated interior of soft colors and
soft lights The well arranged
displays are always uplifting to
the hurried shopper

At a recent meeting of the
Putnam City Board of Educa-
tion an estimate and outline of
needs of the school for the year
1958-1959 was approved The
annual school district election
for the Putnam City schools
will be held Tuesday March
25 1958 in the southeast cor-
ner of the Old -Junior high
school building located at NW
39th and Grove between the
hours of 6:00 a m and 7:00
p ni At that time patrons will
be asked to approve the usual
five mill building levy and cast
ballots for office No 3 on the
board of education A candi-
date for office No 3 must file
for office with the clerk of the
board of education- during the
period beginning March 5 and
ending at 5:00 p m on March

Rev Hicks will be speaking in
the morning chapel as well as
the evening services The A Cap-
pella Choir under the direction
of Professor Lester L Dunn will
be presenting the special music
Special music will also be pro-
vided by various persons of the
community

college pastor prayer meetings
are being held each morning
Pre-service prayer meetings are
planned by college students in
the college department of the
educational unit prior to the eve-
ning services

the Sunday School for this forth-
coming revival High goals have

Dr Hicks has served as pastor
of the First Church of the Naz-
arene in Ashland Kentucky He
has spent several years in evan-
gelistic work previous to hi4 pas-
toring Nazarene churches in Mo-
bile Alabama Chattanooga Ten-
nessee and Ashland
He attended the University of
the South and was hunored with
a DD degree from Trevecca Naz-
arene He has been a frequent

The Civil Defense Pancake Festival will be held all day
Saturday March 29 at the American Legion Hut 50th and

Western Round-Up Cavalcade
presented to a record crowd
Monday evening March 17 at
the Putnam City School audi-
torium under the direction of
Mrs Al Swihart P-TA pro-
gram chairman The production
was well presented by the com-
bined talent of the Elementary
and Junior-Senior High P-TA
units
One of the highlights of the
evening w a s an outstanding
chorus of 35 voices under the
direction of Lorraine Coker with
musical research by Jack Rosen
The flea circus presented by Al
Swihart and Tom Mundy Jr
was very well shown "Out of
My Dreams" a solo given by
Fern Friedlander was excellent
"Oh What a Beautiful Morn-
ing" solo by Morgan Hensley
was outstanding Other out-
standing features and of interest
to children as well as adults was
the Barefoot singers and dancers
A production of this outstand-
ing group was well rewarded by
the large turnout of citizens in
this area This community is
very fortunate - to have Mrs:
Swihart and the many who as-
sisted her in the production and
research in their midst

A pot luck supper will be
held Wednesday March 19 at

hibition contests and the first
telecast during the regular season
has been set for April 19
City Hall plans were discussed

for the various committees need-
ed to make the Pancake Festival
a success Those who were mis-
taken in the date for the Sup-
per and who drove to the hut
expecting warm pancakes swim-
ming in hot syrup with sau-
sages or bacon and hot coffee
on the side the group extends a
hearty welcome to return on
March 29 and your expecta-
tions will be happily well cooked
