Movie craze
Why TV stars are going Hollywood
Some of those TV stars did have
some film successes. Moore garnered
good reviews and an Oscar nomina-
1 tion for “Ordinary People" (1980), but
her film career stalled after that.
Burnett appeared in 1981‘s commer-
., cially successful "The Four Seasons,"
but her other features (“A Wedding" in
, 1978 and "H.E.A.L.T.H." in 1979) were
disappointments. John Travolta be-
• came a superstar with "Saturday
€ Night Fever" (1977) and "Grease"
1 (1978), then starred in a string of me-
A diocre productions.
• Tom Selleck, who’s had his share of
• film hits and bombs, believes the dif-
5 ference between a successful transi-
• tion and failure is timing. If the public
a can’t see you for free anymore, they
• will pay to see you in films.

Ted Danson was slow getting out of
the gate with "Just Between Friends"
and “A Fine Mess" (both 1986), which
it may have been too far afield from his
