DEAR DICK: Could you please tell me if “Falcon Crest” is
based on a book? I like the series very much and hope it will
be on a long time. — S.A., Hughesville, Pa.
You have just jumped right in the middle of a lawsuit The
credits of “Falcon Crest" say it is “created by Earl
Hamner,“ the same man who created “The Waltons”
Hamner says he made “Falcon Crest" up, and it’s not based
on a book However, there is a lawsuit which has been
brought by the author and publisher of a book called "Vin-

the series. The courts will decide the issue.

But about 1,200 Cherokees
refused to leave and hid out
in the rugged mountains of
western North Carolina,
where the Qualla reser-

established at Cherokee.

to stay alive.
Nigh issued his plea to
Oklahomans on Thursday
afternoon, asking that if
they knew of a source for
the organs, to contact a
doctor immediately.
The young mother of
three suffers from primary
pulmonary hypertension,
involving the shutting down
of the main artery to her
heart.
Mrs. Williams said her
daughter took a sharp turn
for the worse Thursday
morning and was listed in
critical condition for a while
at Presbyterian University
Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Judy Blanchard, a
hospital spokeswoman, said
she was in serioius con-
dition late Thursday in a
special unit of the cardiac
car facility.
“This was the worst day
of our life,” Mrs. Williams
said. “I think today was
harder than when they first
told us she had the disease.”
Fund-raising drives
ranging from bake sales to
telethons were launched in
late January after Mrs.
Lenz learned she had to
have at least $250,000 to pay
for the operation.
At that time she was did
not have medical insurance
and was living with he
parents in Laverne, a town
of 1,543 in northwest
Oklahoma.
Once the money was
raised, however, she began
her wait for a donor. She
was also a candidate for a
transplant at Stanford
University but she learned
that two other women were
ahead of here there.
