A Salute To The 7th
AN High School Football
Grade Football Maroons
By J. ALLEN DAWSON
___Sports Editor
Undefeated
Season
8-0
Last Tuesday night, at Daniels
Field, a group of young football
players came to meet a chal-
lenge. They were to play their
last game of the season, and they
would be playing for more than
just a single game, they had
the whole season on the line.
They had the chance to finish
their eight-game season unde-
feated.
All the early morning practice
sessions, all the bruises, all the
travel, all the wins, everything
had come down to this last
game. A chance to have a per-
fect season, to be undefeated.
These young Perry Maroon
seventh graders did just that,
they won their eighth and final
game. They did it for a home
crowd, and they did it to the
Blackwell Maroons.
In the world of sports there are
many forms of championships.
Very few championships are
won by an undefeated team.
For these Perry Maroon sev-
enth graders, there is no state
championship game. Few, if any,
that win the gold ball this year
will do so undefeated.
Undefeated is a championship
title. It means that you took on
all scheduled corners. That you
came together as a team, per-
formed as a team, and as a team
beat all opponents.
Along the way there were
many individual efforts that
seemed to make the difference
and win the game.
They did make the difference,
but it was the long hours of prac-
tice, it was block after block,
pass after pass, catch after catch,
run after run, tackle after tack-
le, and play after play, by the
whole team that made the win-
ning possible. It was a team that
believed in their coaches, and
coaches that believed in the
team.
A new scoreboard has been in-
stalled at Daniels Field. This
seventh grade team would be the
first to use that scoreboard.
When they did, they were the
first to record a win, and that win
would be the last game of their
1997 season, an undefeated sea-
son, Perry's best seventh grade
team, for all time.

37-0 In 3A Clash
It was one of those nights when almost nothing went right, and when
it did, it was not right enough.
Winless Perry took on the district leaders for their next to last game
of the season and the Tuttle Lions showed why they are at the top of
the heap., power, 37 points of it to Perry's 0.
For the Maroons, some great individual offensive and defensive ef-
forts were few and far between, and the night was too long, from start
to finish.
The Maroons play their last game of the season at home this Friday
night as they meet Bristow for the finale.
