Claim 22-20
Overtime Win
Perry’s seventh grade Ma-
roons claimed another victo-
ry Thursday night with a 22-
20 overtime win over the
Pawnee Black Bears.
The Black Bears started the
scoring on a 10-yard run in
the second quarter. After the
two-point conversion, the
score was Pawnee 8, and Per-
ry 0.
On Perry’s next possession,
Eric Moser grabbed a pass
from Ryan Com and raced 50
yards for the locals’ first
touchdown. After a Jason
Williams run for the two-
point conversion, the score
was 8-8 at halftime.
Pawnee struck first in the
second half on a 60-yard
touchdown run. The two-
point conversion attempt
tailed and the score was
Paw nee 14, and Perry 8. The
Perry squad then mounted
their final drive of the
evening. With hard running
by Williams, Moser, Corn
and Mark Cole. Perry drove
down to the Pawnee five-yard
line. Williams scored for Per-
ry and tied the game at 14-all.
In the overtime period. Per-
ry scored first on a 10-yard
touchdown pass to Moser.
Williams made good on the
two-point conversion and the
score was 22-14 in favor of
Perry. Pawnee scored, but the
conversion attempt failed and
Perry took the victory'.
Coach Betchan said the win
was a good one for the team.
He said each player con-
tributed to the victory. "Quin-
ton Tetik. Brett Coldiron and
Jacob Musshafen," Coach
Betchan said, "also deserve a
pat on the back for their
blocking efforts."
Next action for the Maroons
will be Tuesday, Oct. 15,
against Emerson at Daniels
field. Kick-off will be at 6
p.m.

Pound Out
16-14 Win
The Perry eighth grade
gridsters pounded out a hard-
fought 16-14 victory over the
Pawnee Black Bears Thurs-
day night at Daniels field.
Maroon defensive back
Herbie Polk started the game
off by smashing a Pawnee
ball carrier, forcing and re-
covering a fumble. The turn-
over led to a 20-yard touch-
down run by Dion Vester. Re-
ceiver Jeff Klinglesmith
caught the two-point conver-
sion slant pass for an 8-0 lead.
With the score tied at 8-8 at
half-time, the Maroons went
to their passing game to take
back the lead. Quarterback
Joe Platt hit tight end Jacob
Hager for a 15-yard TD. Full-
back Blake Fuller added the
two-point conversion and
Perry led, 16-8.
Pawnee responded with a
long hook and lateral pass
play, cutting the lead to 16-
14. The Maroon defense held
the Black Bears out of the end
zone, stopping the point after
touchdown.
Coaches Scott Chenoweth
and Matt Roberts said the win
was a total team effort with
the offense, defense and spe-
cial teams all contributing.
Perry's eighth graders take
next week off before taking
on Longfellow on Oct. 22.
