NEVER MIND
SPRINGFIELD, Ill, (UPI) -
For at least 10 days 150,000
residents boiled tteir drinking
water because it was supposed
to contain bacteria — now city
officials say it was only the test
samples that were con-
taminated.
Commissioner Paul Bonansin-
ga, who supervises the munici-
pally owned City Water, Light
& Power Co., said Thursday
faulty testing procedures by the
utility led to the boil order that
was issued July 18.
The order was lifted Wednes-
day.
GIRI. BORN EARLY
MIDLOTHIAN, Ill. (UPI)
Michelle Mann's arrival came
one month and four blocks
early. But it may have been the
easiest delivery ever.
Michelle was born in her
parents Pontiac while on the
way to the hospital. Charles
Mann, 28, stopped the car at an
intersection.
"My wife said, It’s coming
right now.' I looked down and
there it was.”
The mother, Andrea Mann,
29, was sitting upright in the
car, Mann said.
“The baby came right out
and (my wife) caught her
before she hit the floorboard."
Michelle weighed 6 pounds, 2
ounces. Officials at St. Francis
Hospital in Blue Island, Ill.,
said Sunday both mother and
daughter were fine.
The Manns said they waited
until the last minute Friday to
drive the 3 miles to the hospital
because the baby was not due
until Aug. 24.
The first electric traffic light
was installed in Cleveland,
Ohio, in 1914.

BITIN' BEAVERS
MINNEAPOLIS (UPI) - An
Iowa woman’s singing did little
to calm one of nature's furry
beasts.
A crazed beaver took a bite
from the leg of Elizabeth
Arnold, of Northwood, Iowa, as
she swam across Wirth Lake
singing a French folk song with
her husband and friends.

ANXIOUS DOLPHINS
BALTIMORE (UPI) —
Aphrodite, Mimi and Kibby —
three bottlenose dolphins at the
National Aquarium in Bal-
timore — have been taking
antacids for stomach ulcers and
are heading for a quiet resort
in Florida to calm down.
Aquarium Associate Director
William S. Flynn said Sunday
the trio will be flown by
chartered plane to the Flipper
Sea School, a holding center
and research institute in
Grassy Key, Fla.
The dolphins will be allowed
to return if improvements can
be made in their tank,
apparently too small and noisy
for the dolphins’ privacy.
"Their symptoms are both
psychological and physical,”
said Flynn, adding they were
suffering from ulcers and
internal bleeding, treated with
Maalox, an anti-ulcer drug,
Tagamet, and antibiotics.
"The animals are not going
to drop dead," Flynn said, but
he said the problems are
serious enough to require
immediate treatment. "We’re
taking this action as early as
possible for their sake."
