Casper ‘Loses’
Masters Crown
AUGUSTA, Ga. (UPI)—The
record book will forever say
that skyscraping George Archer
won the 1969 Masters golf
championship. It might just as
well say Billy Casper lost it.
"I never was so discombobu-
lated,” sighed Casper in the
wake of the disaster that struck
him on his unlucky 13th attempt
to win the Masters green coat
and pot of cash—one of the few
major golf titles that has
escaped the usually cool, calm
and collected Bonita, Calif.,
pro.
The six-foot-six Archer, who
just might have become a
basketball star along about now
if he hadn't been kicked off his
high school team several years
ago because he sneaked away to
play golf on Mondays, took the
Masters by shooting only a par
72 on the last round for a 72-
hole score of 281
Right on his heels at 282 were
Canadian George Knudson and
long-hitting Ohioan Tom Weis-
kopf—and Casper, who started
one stroke ahead of Archer and
wound up one stroke behind him
after an incredible round of five
bogeys and three birdies.

The lawmakers said they
wanted immediate extensions
of the grazing period since it
would not cost anything, but
would be of substantial benefit
to Oklahomans.
They said an extension is
needed because excessive rain
and snow has curtailed normal
grazing throughout the state.
