Forty-Five Cents
Set As Loan For
Corn Harvested
This Amount To Be Loaned
Per Bushel On Grade No
3 Corn Shelled
1 WASHINGTON Oct 31— (AP 1 —
Theagricultural department announc-
ed today a 43-cent-a-bushel loan on
' this year's corn crop appending to
' the loan requirements which Secre-
! tary Wallace said 'might or might
' not" be the beginning of his ever-
' normal granary plan
The Commodity Credit corporation
1 Wallace reported has asked the Re-
! construction corporation for a max-
' inium of $150000000 to finance the
loan to farmers who signed the
1 1935 corn-hog adjustment contracts
The loan the announcement said
will be made available on field corn
1 that has been husked and stored in
' the ear in suitable cribs in accordance
: with the laws of the state in whicn
' it is located
Grade Higher
Loans will be made on corn wnica
If shelled would grade No 3 or bet-
ter The grade requirement in 1933
and 1934 was No 4 The loan rate
last year was 55 cents a bushel and
in 1933 was 45 cents
Wallace called attention to the
1 new requirements that cribs in which
1 corn is stored for loans must be
capable of permitting proper storage
I for two successive years This re-
! quirement Wallace said "might or
might not be” the beginning of the
I balanced granary plan
Under New AAA
I The ever-normal granary plan as
proposed by Wallace was authorized
l in the new AAA amendment It
I would provide for storage of crops
! on farms during good crop years
I possibly under government loans to
I insure a sufficient supply in "lean"
i years
I The corn-loan will mature July 1
11936 but Wallace said probably no
new loans would be granted after
I March 31
1 Final decision on the amount of
the loan was reached after an over-
whelming majority of votes favoring
a corn-hog program in 1936 was in-
1 ' cheated in returns from Saturday's
national referendum
The AAA released an official tab-
I Illation as of noon today including
1 °Mimi returns from 22 states show
ing 813063 votes for and 128340
i votes against a program

Women Who
Simplify Contracts
For Basic Crops
On "Out" Acreage
Adjustment contracts for basic
crops are becoming more simplified
especially with regard to adjusted ac-
reage it is pointed out by J R
Waldby county farm agent
"During three seasons of exper-
ience" ss AAA administrator Ches-
itr C Davis puts it "the AAA has
developed basic commodity contracts
that are unified in their essentials
and are greatly simplified The re-
placement crop feature in particular
has been improved so that contract-
ing farmers can develop their own
sound rotation systems by using the
acres of their farms for the pur-
poses which suit them best and still
protect producers of other commer-
cial crops from competition"
The new wheat contract leave free
p:ay for the best farming practices
that fit each particular farm in ad-
justing the use of land shifted from
wheat to other constructive uses
Quote New Contracts
Each of the new contracts now
reads:
"Use of adjusted acreage and other
land—To use on this farm in each
contract year in which the contract
is operative for soll-imnrovement or
erosion preventing crops pasture fal-
low forest trees and such other pur-
poses as the secretary (of agriculture)
may prescribe an acreage not less
than the normal acreage devoted to
such uses on this farm plus an acre-
age equal to the adjusted acreage
under this and all other contracts
with the secretary with respect to this
farm"
Under the sarly contracts the con-
tracted acres were definitely marked
of in the fields where the crop un-
der contract was grown
It is expected that this simplified
principle will be followed in other new
contracts
