Swimming Again
While the weather has been most
ariabledn ractically every section of
the country a-ith a few almost hot
daYs followed by very cool spel:s
atal the seaon when the "ole wirt--
mIng hole" beckons to the youth cf
the land is upon us
How many of us older folk in Pau ls
Valley remember the terrific urge
that came with the first warm days
to go &m and see if the ole swim-
min' tole was sill tilt- re and to try
oat it S depths and shallows? We Elul
Lave that urge aathin us but most
uv are wiAing for the younger gen-
t:rat:on to take the firs: cold plunees
of tae !:eaaon while we ait by and
aait for the weather to "warm up
a bit"
Swimming is wonderful exercise for
: the human body using practically
every muscle and developing a sense
of rhythm and poise that is most
valuable Every boy and girl In
Garvin county and the world over
abould be taught to swim and should
be prbvided with a safe place In
which to do it
: With the coming of the pleasures
of the swimming season one cannot
refrain from cautioning all swimmers
' to be careful and to think a -long
time before taking unneces:ary risks
We think it necessary that anyone
labout to go in swimming in any river
1 lake pool or the like rhould proceed
s cautiously at first until the nature
of the particular swimming place IS
:learned
So often we read of persons diving
into shallow water only to have
their necks bloken or wading out
In a river and stepping off a ledge
into deep treacherous water an!
drowning before aid could reach them
If such persons had been more cau-
tious and waited until they had learn-
ed more about swimming places these
accidents would probably have been
! avoided
There are so many people in this
world young and old who delight in
taking chances and doing dare-devil
things and those at swimming beaches
are no exception If these people
I were the only ones who got into
trouble it would be bad enough but
so often they cause disaster to come
to others because of their own fool-
ishness So at the beginning of this swim-
ming season let's inaugurate a cam-
paign of caution and common-sense
so that the fatalities due to partici-
pation In this delightful sport can be
reduced to a minimum here in Gar-
vin county
