from a fishing trip rounds
off to zero. Therefore it is
understandable that we
were quite pleased with a
recent fishing excursion to
Tom Steed Reservoir.
We got up at five and
reached the lake at day
break. We were armed
with 32 juglines, shrimp,
liver and frozen shad.
We also had high hopes.
I realistically figured if we
caught one fish big
enough to keep that the
day would be a success.
After an hour we had
put out two groups of 10
lines about 30 yards off
the south shore and six
more along the north
shore. 1 decided to put our
final six lines in the 23-
foot water in the middle of
the lake.
On our way to this loca-
tion. 1 began to notice sev-
eral fish images on the
depth finder in 20 feet of
water. I had always heard
that the depth finder
should be used only to lo-
cate structure but not as a
fish finder. But something
was making those echoes,
and I was willing to take a
chance. So we put out our
final six juglines among
