Recognize any of these
Mod Squad members?
This Altus High School trio from the 1970s made
sure to dress in their most Mod clothes to head for
the FHA Convention. They are Gail Privett, Brenda
Rader and Janie Abernathy.
Folks used to gather in downtown Altus to buy and sell everything from livestock to grain. The
photo above is on the north side of the downtown square looking toward the corner that is
now home to Cellular Plus. Below left is the street market on Cotton Day, and below right men
are seen buying and selling horses. The Cotton Day photo is at the corner of Main and
Broadway, and the horse photo is on the south side of the square looking east on Broadway.
These photos were taken circa 1910.

I guess the hint about this being a “little”
device wasn’t a good enough clue because
no one knew that this was used to melt but-
ter. Now days we just put what we want melt-
ed in the microwave for a few seconds!
