After being home to Altus Bottling Company, this building housed the tag office, James
Starr Insurance and a dental/brace practice. The building is currently empty and sits on
Broadway on the opposite corner of McDonald’s.

Signs of the past can be seen around Altus
if you look hard enough. Leroy and Ame
Smith knew that this one is located on the
east side of the square next to the ABC
Pawn Shop and where the Miss Puff
Boutique used to be. Also getting it right
was Creta Sam.
These 1942 photos show F.W. Woolsworth, on the east side of the downtown Altus square,
and McLellan’s 5&10 Cent Store on the west side of the square. These and other historic
Altus photos are part of the Howard Cotner collection and can currently be seen at the
Grapevine Cafe.
