Duo help police
nab purse snatcher
ALTUS — A couple of Altus citizens
took action Thursday and helped police
locate a man who’d just minutes before
snatched a purse from an elderly woman
on North Spurgeon.
The two men retrieved the woman’s
purse, and Dillard Lee York, 35, of 1211
N. Lee, is in the Jackson County Jail
charged with first degree robbery and
false pawn declaration.
Altus police received a call on the
incident at 11:34 a.m., and by noon York
had been booked into the jail.
Police Chief Mike Patterson said the
two men who came to the woman's aid
chased York down and got the purse back
from him before he took off headed east
on Falcon. With the description from the
two men and the woman, police were
able to locate and arrest York in the 1200
block of North Thomas.
Habitat for Humanity presentation given
The positive outcomes of the Habitat for Humanity Altus Area Inc. program
were presented to the Altus Hispanic Association recently. Program represen-
tative Sue Newland presented the group with an informative video in Spanish
about Habitat home owners across the world. Information was given on the
upcoming Habitat homeowner orientation meeting which will be held
Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Altus Rotary Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Limited
income families will receive information on how to buy a simple, decent
home. Families are selected based on need, ability to pay and willingness to
participate as a partner with Habitat for Humanity.
