'Salute to Yesterday-
!
Given at Fortnighters
"SAI to Yesterday" novel by
Eugene Fowler was the subject I
of an interesting review given last
night by Mrs Clifford Stout at the
Fortnighters club meeting held at
the home of Mrs Edward Bryant
This novel has its setting in the
Rocky Mountain area with the
scenes laid About a Denver news-
paper Several of the characters
are newspaper men It concerns It-
self chiefly with the life of an ec-
centric captain who has held the
Place of mining editor for years al-
though the columns which he writes !
are seldom used The Captain is 75 !
years old and is fantastic and fasci- I
hutting He runs rampant all over
the town attacking verbally and 1
through circulars the leading citi-
zen with whom he has had a feud
for years At last the leading citi-
ten is found dead of a bullet wound!
in a snowdrift and the Captain
becomes the chief suspect
Mrs Stout read the coroner's in-
quest scene because the dialogue it
effered was a splendid example of
the keen wit and cleverness of the
aged defendant At length however
the real murderer was discovered
The boqk was made very entertain-
ing by the reviewer and thoroughly
enjoyed by all who heard it
In a short business meeting pre-
sided over by Mrs Bryant presi-
dent plans were discussed 'for the
year Mention was made of the
pleasure of the club in welcoming 1
back Mrs Garland R Wallin who
has had a leave of absence
The hostess served a delightful
coffee and desert course during a 1
social hour which followed the les-
son and review
