SCHOOLS TO LEARN NEEDS
IS BEGUN Al' HARDING
(Continued from pane )
ptl Mr Smith says that they find
athleVics a great incentive to their
boys to keep up their grades since
they must do this in order to make
the "teams" Under the direction of
the athleticcoach of that building the
boys engage in competitive football
asketball and track work with the
various other ward schools
Another interesting thing about the
school of today is the fact that the
old problem of discipline seems now to
be a much simpler one You see no
tubber hose around the principal's of
lice and most interesting of all Mr
Smith says he finds it zeldom neces-
sary to use one We are quoting him:
"One of the most noticeable im-
provements I have seen in the thirty

problem This year there eve been

minutes if it is thought necestarY
but this le used more for the im-
provement of the student in hit work
rather than as a disciplinary saeas-
ure" When asked to what he attrluted
this change Mr Snsith was very quick
to reply: "to the better eo-operation
between school church and home
Boys and girls recognize today that
the teacher le their frwnti rather
than a policeman"
All the teachers in the Harding
school Ure very high ill their praise
of the Parent-Teachers Aesociation
and its work with ami for them
They state that the P T Al has
been instrumented in supply snuch in-
side equipment for their building in-
cluding: maps internationel dietion-
aries primary chitin and hats brought
other of their needs to the Attention
of the school board
During this year the school board
has added the following eeuipment:
chairs maps globes and additional
drinking cups
The Harding school feels that it is
well equipped now in the nuitter of

still much in need of playground
equipment as they have plenty of
grounds but little equipment
