- It was on a lonely hill overlooking Arnsdort Austria
133 years ago Father Josef Mohr was returning late at
night From a visit with a dying woman Fie paused to
consider his problem: mice eating on the bellows had
disabled the organ in his church — two days before
Christmas Snowy mountains loomed above him: Below
an the dark valley a faint light glimmered here and there
in the village But all was silent Suddenly the good
man murmured "It must have been something like this
— that silent holy night in Bethlehem" Greatly moved -
he hurried home and wrote the words to the immortal
"Silent Night" The stela day he showed the manuscript
to his organist Franz Gruber who catching ée spirit of
the hymn sang it to his wife In the hushed 'silence that
followed she said "We will die —you and I -- but this
song will live' That night—Christmas Eve–wthe organ
did not sound in the church at Arnsdorf The congregation -
felt a definite loss until with Father Mohr singing and
Franz Gruber playing his guitar the hallowed strains of
"Silent Night" fell upon their ears And the echo of
this holy hymn has never died The congregation sat
enthralled There w EIS no organ but here indeed was a
special gift to the Christ Child on His birthday
Silent night- Moly night!
MI is calm all ia bright
'Round yen Virgin Mother and Child
HelyIntant so tender and mild -
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night holy night!
Soo of God love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
